Rules and Regulations

Finals               : Preliminary and Final Round

Competition Description

The 2015 Embassy Cup Speech Competition is an outstanding competition which provides a chance for participants to enhance their speaking proficiencies and show their true spirit of expressing opinions diplomatically.

Competition Format

There will be three rounds held with the topic as stated below.

a.       Preliminary Round: (choose one of them to be your topic)

·         Indonesian youth: entrepreneurship skill for teenagers

·         Indonesian cultural heritage

·         Developing Indonesian tourism

·         Mental revolution for Indonesian youth, necessary or not?

·         Sexual education for Indonesian youth

b.      Final Round: Impromptu Speech

Speech General Rules

1.      Each school may send at most three contestants.

2.      Contestants should wear decent clothes.

3.      Each contestant must arrive at the designated room at least 10 minutes before the competition starts.

4.      Contestants are not allowed to eat in the competition room.

5.      The MC will summon the contestant, then directly the contestants should introduce themselves:

a.       Names

b.      Which school they are from

c.   Title of the speech

6.      The contestants would only be allowed to come to the stage after the committees summon their names.

7.      After performing the speech, the contestants should go back to their seats.

8.      Straight disqualification for the contestants who fail to come to the stage after three-time summons.

9.      Any contestant may not go out unless they wish to go to the rest room.

10.  If they wish to go the rest room, they will have to wait until the other contestant has finished his/her performance and they have to tell one of the committee first.

11.  Vice versa, to enter the room, contestants shall have to wait until the other contestant has finished his/her performance and they have to tell one of the committee first.

12.  Contestants must turn off their mobile device or at least set it in the silence mode.

13.  Phone calls are not allowed to be taken.

14.  In case of rules violation, judges may (in their discretion) deduct 3 points from the total average of judge’s scoring in one round for violation of rules (except timing which has different measures). Judges may also disqualify a speaker for gross misconduct.

A.    PREPARED SPEECH (Preliminary Round)

The Preliminary round will be held on September 6^th 2015

      Speech Subject and Preparation

1.      Contestants must prepare their own five-to-seven-minute speech including the introduction as well as the first topic.

2.      The contestants are not allowed to bring and read the copy of speech during the performance.

3.      The speech should be original and the copy of the speech should be certified to the judges prior to the performance. It may include references to research, quotations, statistics and material from other sources, as long as it contains an original or unique approach, not a substantial copy of another product.

4.      The speech should not be offensive to a particular group.

5.      For the Preliminary Round, each contestant must send the softcopy via email to lingua4bekasi@gmail.com  September 1^st 2015 at the latest 12 PM and three hard-copies to the speech coordinators before the opening of the competition.

Timing of The Speech:

1.      The speech should be no less than five minutes or more than seven minutes in length. Contestants who speak less than 5 minutes or more than 7 minutes shall get his/her points deducted (5 points per 30 seconds)

2.      Timing will begin with the first word uttered by the contestants which would include any other communication.

3.      Timers shall provide warming signals to the contestants (flags), which shall be clearly visible to the speakers.

-          The Green Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the fifth minute of their performance.

-          The Blue Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the sixth minute of their performance.

-          The Red Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the seventh minute of their performance.

4.      There would not be any more signs if the contestants exceed the time expected to deliver their speeches (overtime period). The exceeded time would automatically reduce their scores:

-          Thirty seconds after the last sign would reduce 5 points.

-          Sixty seconds after the last sign would reduce 10 points.

-          And so on…

Assessment of The Speech (Preliminary Round)

1.      Protests concerning eligibility and originality will be limited to judges and contestants.

2.      Before a contestant can be disqualified on the basis of originality, the contestant must be given an opportunity to respond the judges. A majority of the judges must occur in when the decision to disqualify is made.

3.      There would be three main parts that judges will mark:

i.        Content:            Speech Development

Effectiveness

Speech Value

ii.        Delivery:           Physical

Articulation

Manner

iii.      Language:          Appropriateness

Correctness

4.      All decisions of the judges are final.

  

2. GRAND FINAL ROUND (Impromptu Speech)

The Final round will be held on September 6^th 2015

Speech Subject and Preparation

1.      Contestants have to deliver theirs speech with an impromptu theme

2.      Notes, materials, or previously prepared speech outlines shall not be allowed as the contestant speaks.

Contest Procedure

1.       Contestants should remain outside the speaking area (in the backstage) until they are called to perform their speech.

2.       Contestants must prepare and make their speech in the prepare room for 45 minutes in the day.

3.      After performing, contestants should join the audience and back to their seats.

4.      The judges will give their comments or questions about the contestants’ performances for maximum 3 minutes each.

5.      Contestant will have 5 minutes to answer the judges’ questions.

Debate Competition

Embasssy Cup 2015

General Regulations

• —  Participants are senior high school students or the ones at the equal degree in around Jabodetabek region.
• —  Participants must submit a copy of student card, two pieces of self-potraits (3 x 4), and the registration form.
• —  Participants who can not attend the technical meeting by themselves, agree with the result of technical meeting and are not able to object the result.
• —  Participants dress in their proper school uniform.
• —  Participats must come no later than 30 minutes before the competition starts to do the re-registration.
• —  Participants who get the turn to perform will be called for 3 times, participants will be disqualified if they do not come after the call.
• —  Participants are considered to be diqualified if they do not come 10 minutes after the competition starts.
• —  Participants who leave the room more than 15 minutes are considered to be disqualified.
• —  Every school is allowed to bring supporters.
• —  The judges are entitled to score the participants with the criterias set by the committee.
• —  The judges’ decisions are absolute and not able to be objected.
• —  Participants must follow all the regulations.

Competition Regulation

• —  The maximum team of each school is one team.
• —  This debate competition uses the Australia-Asia Debate system.
• —  It will be consisted of 2 teams: Affirmative team (ones who agree with the motion) and Opposition team (ones who do not agree with the motion).
• —  Every team has 3 speakers. It is consisted of first speaker, second speaker, and third speaker.
• —  Every team must prepare a reply speaker  who can be chosen from the first speaker or the second one.
• —  Each speaker is given 5 minutes to deliver arguments, meanwhile the reply speaker is given half of time to deliver arguments.
• —  The time given during the case buliding is 10 minutes.
• —  Motions will be informed to the participants in the technical meeting.
• —  Motions used in every round are determined by the committee.

Time

• —  Every speaker of both teams is only given 5 minutes to deliver arguments.
• —  Reply speaker is only given 2 minutes and 30 seconds or half of other speaker’s time to deliver arguments.
• —  At the first minute, there will be given a knock as the sign that participants enter the first minute and interruption is permitted.
• —  The second knock is the sign that the speaker has used 4 minutes of speaking.
• —  The knock will be done repeatedly when every speaker has given arguments for 5 minutes.

Speakers

1. First speaker (Affirmative)

•       Giving definitions of the motion (the debated topic.)

•       Giving background

•       Giving the limit of the topic.

•       Giving teamline (dividing tasks of the first, second, and third speaker.)

•       Giving teamsplit (dividing every speaker’s point of view)

2.       Second speaker (Opposition)

•     Disagreeing the topic and giving rebuttal to everything that is stated by the speaker of the affirmative team.
• —  Giving teamsplit and teamline
• —  Giving arguments.
• —  Giving the linkback of every point why the speaker disagrees with the topic.    

3.     Second speaker (Affirmative and Opposition)

·         Rebutting the main case or even arguments of the opponent’s speaker.

·         Delivering arguments and strengthening each first speaker’s arguments.

·         Summarizing the whole speech.

4.       Third speaker (Affermative dan Opposition)

5.       Giving rebuttal to every argument of the opponent.

6.       Building the team’s cases back which are attacked by the opponent.

Reply Speaker

• —  Giving review of the debate that has been done.
• —  Rebuttal is not allowed.

—  Review :

ü  Comparing the case between the both team.

ü  Giving reasons why their team should win in the debate.

Score

1. —  Matter / Material

• —  Whether the delivelered arguments are connected with the motion or not.
• —  Examples, problems, evidences, and logical facts of the topic stated in the arguments.
• —  Submission of arguments that consists of:

ü  Assertion (Statements)

ü  Reasons (any reasons that support assertion)

ü  Evidence (any proofs or datas that suppoert assertion and reasons.)

ü  Link Back (a skill to connect the three points above.)

2.Manner

•   Fluency, eye contact, gesture, intonation, and other points about verbal communication

3.  .Method

•   Method used by every speaker to the deliver arguments and do rebuttals.

v  Maximum score is 100.

Peraturan Lomba News Casting

KETENTUAN UMUM

— Perlombaan ini terbuka untuk siswa tingkat SMA atau sederajat.

— Peserta lomba adalah perseorangan.

— Utusan dari tiap sekolah maksimal dua orang. 

— Peserta/perwakilan wajib membawa pas foto 3x4 dan fotocopy kartu pelajar saat mendaftar. 

— Ketentuan perlombaan : kontes News Casting dibagi menjadi 2 tahap, yaitu: babak kualifikasi dan babak final 

— Kuota maksimal perserta adalah 15 orang

Teknis Pelaksanaan

— Untuk babak kualifikasi, peserta menyiapkan sendiri materi berita yang akan disampaikan.

— Untuk babak final, peserta akan diberikan naskah oleh panitia.

— Peserta harus hadir 15 menit sebelum lomba dimulai.

— Jika peserta tidak hadir setelah 3 kali panggilan, maka peserta tersebut akan dipindahkan ke nomor urut terakhir dan akan dipanggil kembali sebanyak tiga kali. 

— Jika peserta tetap tidak hadir, maka peserta tersebut akan didiskualifikasikan dan uang pendaftaran tidak dikembalikan.

— Durasi tampil tiap peserta dibatasi selama 4 menit. Jika melebihi batas waktu, akan dikenakan pengurangan nilai.

— Pakaian yang dikenakan saat perlombaan berlangsung yaitu pakaian formal sebagaimana yang selalu dipakai oleh pembawa berita.

— Keputusan dewan juri tidak dapat di ganggu gugat.

—     Tone and Gesture.

Timing dalam Newscast

— Bendera hijau dikibarkan menandakan peserta lomba diperbolehkan untuk memulai

— Bendera kuning akan dikibarkan pada menit ke-3.

— Bendera merah akan dikibarkan pada menit ke-4 yang menandakan waktu habis.

Sistem Penilaian

· Pada babak penyisihan, akan diambil 5 peserta yang akan lolos ke babak final untuk memperebutkan juara 1, 2, dan 3
