Finals               : Preliminary and Final Round

Competition Description

The 2014 Embassy Cup Speech Competition is an outstanding competition which provides a chance for participants to enhance their speaking proficiencies and show their true spirit of expressing opinions diplomatically.

Competition Format

There will be three rounds held with the topic as stated below.

a.       Preliminary Round: (Choose one of them to be your topic)

·         Indonesia goes to 2015 ASEAN Economic Community

·         Indonesia goes to 7^th President and the government transition

·         2013 Education Curriculum

·         Indonesiaan Culture in the midst of the Globalization Era

b.      Final Round: Impromptu Speech

Speech General Rules

1.      Each contestant must arrive at the designated room at least 15 minutes before the competition starts.

2.      Contestants should remain silent in the designated room until they are called to perform their speech.

3.      The coordinator will summon the contestant, then directly the contestants should introduce themselves:

a.       Names

b.      Which school they are from

c.   Title of the speech

4.      The contestants would only be allowed to come to the stage after the committees summon their names.

5.      After performing the speech, the contestants should go back to their seats.

6.      Straight disqualification for the contestants who fail to come to the stage after three-time summons.

7.      Any contestant may not go out unless they wish to go to the rest room.

8.      If they wish to go the rest room, they will have to wait until the other contestant has finished his/her performance.

9.      Vice versa, to enter the room, contestants shall have to wait until the other contestant has finished his/her performance.

10.  Contestants must turn off their mobile device or at least set it in the silence mode.

11.  Phone calls are not allowed to be taken.

12.  In case of rules violation, judges may (in their discretion) deduct 3 points from the total average of judge’s scoring in one round for violation of rules ((except timing which has different measures). Judges may also disqualify a speaker for gross misconduct or ineligibility.

A.    PREPARED SPEECH (Preliminary Round)

The Preliminary round will be held on September 28^th 2014

      Speech Subject and Preparation

1.      Contestants must prepare their own five-to-seven-minute speech concerning with the nationalism including the introduction as well as the first topic

2.      The speech should be original and the copy of the speech should be certified to the judges prior to the performance. It may include references to research, quotations, statistics and material from other sources, as long as it contains an original or unique approach, not a substantial copy of another product.

3.      For the Preliminary Round, each contestant must send the softcopy via email to lingua4bekasi@gmail.com   September 26^th at the latest 11 PM and three hard-copies to the speech coordinators before the opening of the competition.

Timing of The Speech:

1.      The speech should be no less than five minutes or more than seven minutes in length. Contestants who speak less than 5 minutes or more than 7 minutes shall get his/her points deducted (5 points per 30 seconds)

2.      Timing will begin with the first word uttered by the contestants which would include any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act, etc.

3.      Timers shall provide warming signals to the contestants (flags), which shall be clearly visible to the speakers.

-          The Green Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the fifth minute of their performance.

-          The Blue Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the sixth minute of their performance.

-          The Red Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the seventh minute of their performance.

4.      There would not be any more signs if the contestants exceed the time expected to deliver their speeches (overtime period). The exceeded time would automatically reduce their scores:

-          Thirty seconds after the last sign would reduce 5 points.

-          Sixty seconds after the last sign would reduce 10 points.

-          And so on…

Assessment of The Speech

1.      Protests concerning eligibility and originality will be limited to judges and contestants.

2.      Before a contestant can be disqualified on the basis of originality, the contestant must be given an opportunity to respond the judges. A majority of the judges must occur in when the decision to disqualify is made.

3.      There would be three main parts that judges will mark:

i.        Content:            Speech Development

Effectiveness

Speech Value

ii.        Delivery:           Physical

Voice

Manner

iii.      Language:          Appropriateness

Correctness

4.      All decisions of the judges are final.

  

2. GRAND FINAL ROUND (Impromptu Speech)

The Final round will be held on September 28^th 2014

Speech Subject and Preparation

1.      Contestants have to deliver their speech with an unpredictable theme

2.      Notes, materials, or previously prepared speech outlines shall not be allowed as the contestant speaks.

Contest Procedure

1.       Contestants should remain outside the speaking area (in the backstage) until they are called to perform their speech.

2.       Contestants must prepare and make their speech in the prepare room for 1 hour in the day.

3.      After performing, contestants should join the audience and back to their seats.

4.      The judges will give their comments about the contestants’ performances for maximum 2 minutes each.

1.       After contestants pick their own topic, they will be given one minute to think and/or to organize what they will talk about.

2.       The speech should be no less than five minutes or more than ten minutes in length.

3.       Contestants who think more than one minute shall get his/her points deducted (5 points per 30 seconds of total score)

4.       Timing will begin with the first word uttered by the contestants which would include any other communication such as sound effects, a staged act, etc.

5.       Timers shall provide warning signals to the contestants (flags), which shall be clearly visible to the speakers but no obvious to the audience.

-    The Green Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the five minute of their performance.

-    The Blue Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the seventh minute of their performance.

-    The Red Flag will be raised when the contestants have reached the tenth minute of their performance.

REGISTRATION

Registration Date : September 8^th 2014 – September 21^st 2014

·         Participants can get the registration form in SMA Negeri 4 Bekasi

·         The registration form, valid student or ID card, statement of the school papers, and photo 3x4 – 3 pieces must be given to the committee’s in SMA Negeri 4 Bekasi

·         Registration fee payment can be done by directly transaction to the committee’s at SMA Negeri 4 Bekasi:

Registration Fees

For Speech Competition                     Rp 100.000,-/person

Registration fee payment must be done before Technical Meeting.

·         If there are conditions that are not completed, then it is not registered as a participant

·         Every institution is allowed to participate in this competition with no more than 3 participant representing the school

·         Technical Meeting will be held on September  21^st  2014 at auditorium – SMA Negeri 4 Bekasi

JUKLAK JUKNIS KANA

•  Peserta individual dan merupakan siswa-siswi SMA/SMK/MA se-Jabodetabek.

•  Setiap sekolah dapat mengirimkan lebih dari satu peserta.

• Biaya pendaftaran lomba sebesar Rp30.000,-/peserta.

• Lomba akan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 28 September 2014.

•  Peserta mendaftar lomba selambat-lambatnya tanggal 21 September 2014 (saat Technical Meeting).

• Lomba akan dimulai pada pukul 09.00 WIB.

•  Peserta wajib mendaftar ulang selambat-lambatnya 1 jam sebelum lomba dimulai.

• Peserta wajib berada di ruang lomba selambat-lambatnya 15 menit seblum lomba dimulai. Peserta yang terlambat diperbolehkan mengikuti lomba, tetapi tanpa perpanjangan waktu.

•  Peserta menyiapkan alat tullis masing-masing (hanya diperbolehkan menggunakan pensil 2b dan penghapus)

• Total soal sejumlah 100 yang terdiri dari penggunaan huruf hiragana, katakana, kanji dan penggunaan partikel serta waktu pelaksanaan lomba selama 1 jam.

• Peserta tidak diperkenankan membawa atau menggunakan kamus atau alat bantu lainnya.

• Peserta tidak boleh melakukan kecurangan dalam bentuk apapun. Bila peserta terbukti melakukan kecurangan, maka peserta akan didiskualifikasi.

• Peserta tidak boleh bekerja sama dengan peserta lain.

• Peserta diharapkan tetap membuat suasana tenang atau tidak membuat keributan dan tetap menjaga kebersihan kelas.

• Keputusan juri tidak dapat diganggu gugat.

   SISTEM PENILAIAN

• Penilain berdasarkan ketepatan dan kecepatan dalam mengerjaka soal.

•  Pemenang adalah peserta dengan jumlah tertinggi.
